Steps to reproduce:
Create a (mailing) list with linked contacts.
Actual results:
Currently when creating a mailing list the list just contains a list of e-mail addresses rather than vCard references.
Unfortunately this complicates maintenance of multiple lists. For example if I have 10 lists and users are listed in multiple of them and need to change the e-mail address of one of the list members I need to update all lists. Even worse I will update the contact entry and might not even remember the old mail address of this person. So it's hard to maintain the correct e-mail address of each list member.
Expected results:
I would appreciate if there would be an option to link vCards/address-book entries rather than hard-coding the e-mail addresses to lists.
Sure the use-case of multiple e-mail addresses on a referencedd vCard needs to be solved like "add all e-mail addresses of this user to the list" or "send only to first business e-mail of the vCard" policies would be required. But at least it would allow to centrally manage address book entries and get lists updated automatically.
Alternatively I could tag/categorize address book entries and it would help if Thunderbird would allow to select "tags/categories" when creating an e-mail in order to send to all members of this tag/category. +1 From me, that would also solve https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1668791 if the Server Supports vCard 4.0.

Hello Rainer, thank you for your feedback, quite right! The current (old) mailing list design isn't very functional and needs a complete overhaul.
I guess we're in a better position to tackle that now as we have the new address book.
