User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0

Steps to reproduce:

At my place of work, we sometimes download .ovpn files so that users can work remotely. We have a server that generates and emails a link to users so that they can download this config file, but since Firefox 102, clicking our Download button downloads the file without its extension (.ovpn). This is all internal, so I apologize that you cannot test this on your end. This is reproducible on the beta version of Firefox (103), and across all major OSes (tested on MacOS Monterey, Windows 10, and Ubuntu/Fedora).

Actual results:

The file downloaded, and is correct in every way (no data loss), it just does not have the .ovpn extension. Manually editing the file to have the extension is a workaround but is not ideal. Downloading in older versions of Firefox keeps the .ovpn extension without the need for manual addition.

Expected results:

The file should download with the extension without having to manually add it.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::File Handling' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

I could not reproduce the issue on Win10 using Beta 102.0b1 (build without fix). I used a clean profile and a profile with the file handler from bug 1772140.
Can you please add a sample of .ovpn file and handler.json from your profile, in order to reproduce it? Thank you so much.

File handler can be found: go to about:suport ->Profile Folder ->Open folder -> look for 'handlers.json'.

Monica,

I'm sorry but I cannot give you an example .ovpn file because it has company data in it. I did some testing myself, and it seems like the download only fails to add the '.ovpn' when downloaded through the download button on our internal web page. We have a file hosting service that I uploaded a .ovpn file to and it downloaded with the extension still, so it has something to do with the button that prompts the download, I think. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I can't go into specifics because of privacy concerns.

Jason,

There were some fixes made on bug 1773907 that could be fixing your issue.
Can you please try and see if issue still reproduces on latest Beta 103.0b8 (https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/candidates/103.0b8-candidates/build1/) and Nightly 104.0a1(https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/2022/07/2022-07-13-09-38-28-mozilla-central/)? Also what OS are you using?
Thank you so much.

Monica,

I have tested the issue on the beta build on Mac and Windows and the nightly build on Windows. All three tests fixed the issue. Thanks for your help! This issue had been occurring on Mac, Windows, and Linux.
