Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:104.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/104.0
Steps to reproduce:
Had an address book entry with an email address, a display name, and Prefer display name over message header checked. Received email with the sender field containing the email address. The correspondent column displayed the display name, not the email address. Did a quick search on the display name.
Actual results:
The search did not find the emails. Searching on the underlying sender field content did find the emails.
Expected results:
Quick search should at least search on what is shown, and better search on both underlying possibilities - the actual sender information and the display name shown if different.

I of course don't know the component breakdown. But this is about quick search in the message pane, not search in the address book.

Yes Marc, this is happening. I've reported this 14 years ago. It's not exactly trivial, but quite possible to fix. We should. Imo this is one of the most significant search fails which Thunderbird has - many users may never notice depending on their data sets, random changes of sender's display name (beyond user's control), and thus search may return some, but not all matches, or none.
