It is impossible to use any fonts except Lucida Grande for Hebrew in Chimera/Mozilla for MacOS X. The preferences pane in Chimera allows me to choose different Hebrew fonts but these settings have no impact on actual page-layout. The text is always rendered in Lucida Grande only. Mozilla for MacOS X doesn't allow to choose any Hebrew fonts at all. It seems that the same is true or Arabic also. You can render Arabic page only in default Lucida. It could be issue of fonts but I tried any possible Hebrew fonts - those that came in Language Kit for MacOS 9, those that ships with localized Hebrew MacOS and finally Unicode Windows fonts. The same fonts are fine in other MacOS X applications (say TextEdit) except localized Hebrew MacOS fonts - the system does not allow me to select these fonts for use with hebrew script. However Chimera actually does allow me to select both Windows Unicode fonts and LK fonts - but it still has no impact on rendering. Note that Mozilla for Classic MacOS allows user to change Hebrew fonts. Unfortunately, Lucida that came with MacOS X 10.2 is not the best font for Hebrew and especially for Arabic.
This is a dupe of either bug 110655 or bug 153296. We so need a developer who can provide some traction on all these Mac Bidi bugs.
