User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0
Steps to reproduce:
In a new Thunderbird profile in Mageia 8 Plasma Kde x64-86, I open the application, I open a new mail, and I write the text. After, I attach a pdf file from anywhere of my home directory, documents, downloads, etc.
I open the attachment for verify that it is correct, and then, Thunderbird make a temporally file my desktop.
I attach screenshot of my desktop with the temporally file. And you can see in this video, the bug of I comment: https://ecloud.global/s/rpGFBoXGTEJPx3W
I have variuous computers with this bug. I have tried in LXQT Desktop and I have the same issue. And I have checked that this bug doesn't of Mageia only, I have tested this in KdeNeon and Endeavour OS with the same results.
I have seen that this bug don't appears if I have as default application "Thunderbird" for open PDF files.
Actual results:
Mozilla Thunderbird make a temporally file in my desktop if I change the default application preview for PDF files, when I open the attach file before send the message.
Expected results:
Mozilla Thunderbird should open the PDF file without create no file in my desktop, with the default app configured in settings for PDF files (for example, okular).
I have checked that:
- I change in Thunderbird settings to "ask ever" the HTML file option.
- I open a new message and I attach a PDF file.
- I open this PDF attach and Thunderbird ask me how open it.
- I select for example okular, but I don't mark that Thunderbird remember this as default application for this type files (HTML).
- Thunderbird make a temporally file in desktop, open the file with okular and when I close okular, temporally file desappears.
But, if I mark in the pop-up window, that Thunderbird remember this application for this type files (HTML), then, Thunderbird open the file making a temporally file in desktop and when I close Okular, Thunderbird don't delete the temporally file.

This is Thunderbird working as designed.
Attach a file, and it is encoded as mime text in the message to be sent. There is no link to the original source document, as an email is entirely atomic.
Choose to open it and a file has to be created, as only Thunderbird understands mime encoded text. The external application needs a file to open.
I would say the bug as it stands is invalid.

This doesn't Thunderbird working as designed, starting because in previous versions this issue don't appears. This issue appears with PDF files only, if I open a ODS file, Thunderbird recognize this file as opendocument file and ask me if I open with Libreoffice. So, something have changed because this issue is here since 102 version...
I have various pcs working for Thunderbird, and in all is this bug.
You do not get to change the bug status simply because you do not agree. This bug is invalid.
