User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:105.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/105.0

Steps to reproduce:

Connect to IRC account in the chat window.
Given long enough text history, scroll upwards.

Actual results:

When a new message appears (but not room info like users joining / leaving) then the screen jumps downward to show that message.
This makes it very inconvenient to read chat history as the screen keeps jumping downward.

Expected results:

The screen should remain wherever it is if it is scrolled anywhere upwards.

I noticed this change in behaviour since the latest larger UI change few months ago.

Summary: IRC chat screen jumps down when a new message appears → IRC chat screen jumps down when a new message appears - inconvenient to read chat history as the screen keeps jumping downward

This is a regression, if you scroll-up new messages should not force you back to the bottom of the window.

Marián -- it sounds like this behavior changed when you updated to Thunderbird 102 (I'm extrapolation that "since the latest larger UI change few months ago" means "upgraded to 102")?

Yes, I am pretty sure it would be version 102. My current one is 102.3.1 (64-bit).
