Details

(Keywords: crash)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Using Ubuntu 22.04 with GNOME desktop (42.4 as of this writing) in Wayland mode and Ubuntu Thunderbird package 1:102.4.2+build2-0ubuntu0.22.04.1. Notebook with two monitors - builtin panel and external TV via HDMI.

  2. Start Thunderbird in native Wayland mode (MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1) which is the default on Ubuntu

  3. Suspend to RAM by closing lid.

  4. Open lid.

Actual results:

Thunderbird crashes.

Expected results:

Thunderbird obviously should not crash :)

More details.

  1. Crash does not happen when running in X11 mode under Xwayland
  2. Crash does not happen in Wayland mode if there is just one monitor (builtin panel).

Two last crash reports:

Thanks for the detailed bug report. FYI, you can use the bugzilla tab of the crash report to file the bug report - it will fill in all the gory details.

This might be fixed by Bug 1793922 - [Wayland] Crash when screen screen is added - but only on beta. Can you try the beta from https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/ ? If you install into a seperate directory, it should also create a new profile

I rebuilt Ubuntu package with patch from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1793922 on top and it seems to have fixed it.

thanks for the update.
