problems when copying imap folder (with subfolders) to local folders someone writes: I have a bunch of subfolders that I create under INBOX on my IMAP mail account. I want to make local copies of the whole tree, but when I drag/drop INBOX to under "Local Mail", it recreates the folder hierarchy, and copies all of the top level messages out of INBOX, but none of the messages in the subfolders will copy. Even if I try to copy them manually by selecting the messages in each folder. (this is on windows, using both NS and Mozilla) Is this expected behavior? Is there another way to do what I want? ("work offline" and "synch" are not what I'm after. I want separate local copies) someone: what type of imap server is this?

I have this behaviour also and consider it definitely a bug. Copying a folder means copying all of its contents, including the contents of subfolders, recursively - at least unless there is an option to exclude subfolders. As it is I get empty subfolders and no warning that my copy has not done what I expected. The empty subfolders are extra annoying as I then have to delete them before I can copy them again at the next level down. I have to do this with several hundred folders, very annoying. See bug 127049 and bug 207156 for an explanation of why I am doing this - the only reliable way to import multilingual messages from Outlook.
Things have gone from bad to worse. I have now run into bug 203071 which means that I have to completely unload and reload Mozilla to copy each individual subfolder of the hundred or so.
I'll look into this - I know the code intends this to work because I've reviewed changes to it, but I don't know why it wouldn't work.
See my new comments on bug 203071.
