What is the user problem or growth opportunity you want to see solved?
@person808 implemented swipe on the address bar to switch tabs. This gesture (and the accompanying look of the animation) would gel better with a tab switcher which looks like Android's app switcher, rather than a tab list:
- Swiping up on the address bar would shrink the tab into a "recent apps" like view of the tabs. (like Chrome does?)
- Naturally, you would swipe sideways to scroll through the tab list. The immediate benefit is that you can view their contents at a glance, instead of having to rely on thumbnails.
- It would be more usable than Chrome, which has vertical tab scrolling (last I remember). Chrome's implementation allows for faster scrolling, but impedes tab content visibility at a glance.
How do you know that this problem exists today? Why is this important?
It is an alternative feature to #11862. We already have the ability to access the tab list from the tab counter button. So that can stay the way it is now. An Android-like tab switcher would look and feel better than a tab list for the swipe up gesture.
Who will benefit from it?
Swipe-happy users, I guess? On a serious note, everyone who is used to Android's recent apps switcher (sounds like a lot of people).
