Details
(status is a really bad name for the field, please suggest a better one.)
Currently, many people use the Real Name field to tell the world important this
about themselves. I have seen:
- 'I'm on vacation till ...'
- 'Not reading bugmail'
- 'Die marquee die' ;-)
- 'Looking for a job'
These are commonly added in round brackets after the real name. It is a pain,
because:
- It makes it rediculously long
- It can't be used for other purposes, where a shorter name for the user is
needed (like bug 181235).
I suggest:
Make a field, especially for these purposes. People should write in there a few
words which they want to let the world know. These would be shown prominently,
maybe even very similar to today, but we (bugzilla) would know what it is and
can ignore it for certain usages and adjust the HTML in others.

Related to bug 181255, but not a dup. This isn't some generic random field, but must be shown close to the name in comments, otherwise it fails its purpose as stated above.
This fills a real, practical need.

It will be implemented as any other custom field for user profiles. The way we are going to implement it and decide how to display the information belongs to Bugzilla core developers' decision.
