Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)
Build Identifier: i cannot fill this in, because Mozilla will not show this; this is part of the problem
Suddenly, Mozilla 1.1, 1.2b (I tried both) refuse to open more than one
window. Thus, I cannot open a compose window. I cannot open help, etc. Also,
Mozilla refuses to remove itself when I exit it, and I must remove it by ending
process using the Windows 2000 task bar.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.open mozilla
2.try to compose or help or do anything that opens a window
3.
Actual Results:
Mozilla does not open a window
Expected Results:
should open a window

I encountered the same bug on my Windows XP machine. Strangely it even refuses
to open a window if the quicklaunch application is running. Even multiple
uninstall/install procedures did not solve the problem.

I just seem to have "fixed" my installation by deleting the following files from
my user profile directory:
Cache/*
chrome/*
localstore.rdf
prefs.bak
cookies.txt
downloads.rdf
history
history.mab
search.rdf
I hope this helps,
/Kai
Kai, deleting most of those files didn't help my version of this bug.
I'm able to start up a main window (Mail / News), able to read email in
separate windows but unable to open a compose window. "Compose", "Forward" and
related keyboard shortcuts all fail. The existing windows may be minimized but
no other action works from then on (application stops responding).
My system is a Windows 2000 SP3 laptop running Mozilla 1.2.1 with SkyPilot 2
theme and 2 IMAP accounts. I primarily use Mozilla as my email client and
haven't seen if other types of windows open properly. Problem started after
the last time I synchronized IMAP mail folders.
I find that the problem starts when I designate Mozilla as the default browser.
Problem abates when I designate IE as default browser. Thus, Mozilla has a
preference for IE as the default browser!

just some more comments:
problem started, when upgrading from 1.2.1 to 1.3 alpha (without uninstalling
the old version).
Kai Trojahner's solution (deleting some files) worked for me.

The same Problem ocsures in Firefox too. Reason for this problem might be the
Extension "UserAgentSwitcher" (see:
http://chrispederick.com/work/firefox/useragentswitcher/documentation/faq/#faq6)
Occures: Firefox (not explicitly tested but several Versions > 1.0)
Mozilla (not explicitly tested)
Reprocuceable: Yes (Autoupgrade UserAgentSwitcher to newer Version)
Similar Problem: FireFox (BugID= 271476)
@see: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=271476
Solution:
*********
Uninstall UserAgentSwitcher
Restart Mozilla/FireFox
Install newer Version of UserAgentSwitcher (if you want)
