Note

  • If you lower the volume to 0% by using the volume slider in the original player the muted state is reflected in the pip player

Found in

  • Nightly 112.0a1

Affected versions

  • Nightly 1112.0a1
  • Firefox 110.0
  • ESR v102.8.0esr

Tested platforms

  • Affected platforms: All

Steps to reproduce

  1. Play a video and launch PiP.
  2. Lower the volume of the video using the down-arrow key all the way to 0%.

Expected result

  • When the volume gets to 0% the muted speaker icon is shown in the PiP player.

Actual result

  • When the volume gets to 0% the muted speaker icon is not shown in the PiP player.

Regression range

  • Not a regression.

The behavior of this issue has been modified by the implementation of bug 1580095.

  • Before this implementation, the user would turn down the volume in the original player (with down arrow key) and the PiP would not show as muted.
  • After this fix, when the user would turn down the volume in the original player (by the down arrow key), he would not be able to turn it back up (using up arrow).

I will set the branch status flags to evidentiate the change in behavior, but the original bug's reported behavior is present since implementation until branch 115.

This issue is no longer just aesthetic considering it gets stuck on mute, but it has the workaround of clicking any of the volume sliders so I will set severity S3.

Detailed steps:

  1. Play a video and launch PiP. (Youtube)
  2. Focus on the main player and lower the volume of the video using the down-arrow key all the way to 0%.
  3. Attempt to Unmute using the up arrow.
Expected: The volume properly increases with each Up arrow press.
Actual: The volume appears to be stuck on mute.
Severity: S4 → S3
Summary: Muted state is not reflected in the pip player when lowering the volume of a video using down-arrow to 0% → The volume can't be turned back up after turning it down (keyboard navigation) in the original player

Too late for Fx119
:mhowell wondering if there is any priority on this, if we can expect something for fx120 or this will be a later release

Flags: needinfo?(mhowell)

There's no real priority on this right now, no. I don't have a timeline I can give you at all, unfortunately. :(
