Details

Steps to reproduce:

receive an email

Actual results:

TB shows sender name

Expected results:

TB should have shown sender email address.

this simple change can prevent opening a SPAM/Phishing email.

Full Address Column (nice workaround but not working in ver 112).

Shame we need an add on for this security issue.

Wayne, thanks for letting me know.

697031 says "in the From column of the thread pane". I am referring to the Inbox, Unified Inbox, etc.

We can avoid so many scams by reading the email address instead of the Name. Might also miss important emails thinking they are a scam.

any update on this?

It's the same bug - you are talking about any selected folder and what it is displaying in the thread pane also known as message list. In the Thread Pane you have column headers and one is called 'FROM'.

You can see 'from' email address in the headers when email is selected and displaying in Message Pane.
You can choose to see the full headers.
You can choose to open Ctrl+U to see full source view of email.
You can choose to install an addon called:
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/full-address-column/
however, that addon does not work in version 115*

Please note seeing whatever email address is displayed in a FROM does not mean it was the real sender, so bottom line is do not rely on the email address in a FROM. You can tell from the content whether it's bogus or not.
Simple rules - do not allow remote content - if from says it;s from a friend and content does not read/sound like it's written by that friend then ignore it - do not clickon links in email without verifying they are genuine - do not open any attachment because you are curious and that rule applies regardless of what it says in the FROM email address.

Agree it's a duplicate.

Dont want to use message pane.

Full headers and Message Pane dont work/are less secure as they have already opened the email.

"Please note seeing whatever email address is displayed in a FROM does not mean it was the real sender," know this but it is better than nothing as it is now.

I used to use the addon but it doesnt work anymore. The only addon I used.

Why cant we have an email in a column?

Its not a bug, its a basic feature.
A LOT of stupid companies send email that show as
Correspondent: John Smith
Subject: Newsletter

which can be from a legitimate newsletter or SPAM.

why cant we have this basic feature?

Dont want to use message pane.

Use the workaround which has always been available.
Close the Message Pane using F8 - select email in thread pane and use Ctrl+U to open source.

You can also always go into offline mode before doing the above which means if you had a full download then you can check source and delete email, then compact folder before going back online.

why cant we have this basic feature?

It's up to the developers whether an Email column gets added. I'm hoping they will consider now to be the appropriate time to do this given the addon option is no longer an option. They will make comments when action is in the pipeline. They do not waste time making general comments as this is not a chat forum. You would have to be patient.

all those steps or just having a column with sender email address? why dont developers want to implement this?

my point is that it is a useful feature that is not hard to implement as it used to show email before this correspondents trend. users are requesting it as well.
