Thunderbird 102.9.0

In Address Book

  • Select an address
  • Select a contact
  • Contact info is displayed below

Now you want to close that contact display so you can see all the list again.
Problem: there is no 'Close' option only 'Write', 'Event', 'Search' and 'Edit'

Workarounds:
Make the window wider so that the contact display appears on the right. This is not always practical if there is an issue with screen size.
Select another address book and then reselect required address book.

Please consider a 'Close' option which removes the selected contact details display and deselects the contact in the list.

Mentioned in bug 1933735, the details pane can be freed by deselecting the current contact - ctrl+click on Windows, and command+click in Mac.``

Indeed it can, but it's not quite the same thing, as the current contact has to be scrolled into view so that you can then Ctrl/Click on it. This was why it used "Esc" previously in TB so that when sorting contacts out (and I've got a lot) then you don't have to start scrolling just to do the Ctrl/Click to deselect a contact and then Ctrl/Click again to select the correct contact.

I suppose there is a case for this being simply a user preference and the new way is better since you can increase the contacts on view by adjusting the split.

It seems to me that this is another "non-bug" that ought to be closed really, as there's a workaround available. I simply didn't realise that Ctrl/Click was a toggle action. Doh!
