User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/112.0

Steps to reproduce:

Update to a nightly version with new UI.
Select Vertical layout.

Actual results:

When large number of messages are supposed to be displayed in message list, the list is truncated at unknown point.

Entering anything in Quick Filter toolbar that reduces the number of displayed messages results in some formerly inaccessible messages being displayed if the total number of displayed messages decreases. This indicates that messages are known to Thunderbird but displayed list has some size limitation.

This does not happen in non-Vertical layouts that seem to use old list display procedure.

Expected results:

All messages in the list are displayed regardless of the list size.

Summary: Lists with large number of messages are partially displayed in new UI → Vertical View (cards): Lists with large number of messages are partially displayed in new UI

Thanks Abelits.

  • How many messages in your folder, and what's the size of the folder?
  • Does this happen with ≡ > Help > Troubleshoot Mode…?

Alex, does the Vertical View (Cards) scale with very large number of messages?

Vertical and Table layout share the exact same code, so performance and rendering are the same.
If messages don't appear in the vertical view it might be an issue with incorrect overflow height calculation, but it's hard to say without a consistent reproducible state.

Thanks Abelits.

  • How many messages in your folder, and what's the size of the folder?

There are about 600000 messages, only about 400000 of them are displayed. Not sure about the size.

  • Does this happen with ≡ > Help > Troubleshoot Mode…?

Happens in exactly the same manner.

Alex, does the Vertical View (Cards) scale with very large number of messages?

It doesn't seem to slow down displaying/scrolling the list. Thunderbird occasionally freezes for >=10 of seconds when receiving/processing mail over IMAP, however this is how it acted for a long time already.

Also in 114? Hopefully out tomorrow.

I can't reproduce this.
Does it still happen after the improvements on the scroll calculations that landed on daily and beta?

Gentle ping to Sean if he can investigate this and if he's able to reproduce it
