User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/112.0

Steps to reproduce:

Interpolating replies in a message often leads to odd font sizes. While the opeing lines are as chosen for default, often the interpolations cannot be made to match. Increase and decrease font size is too crude, and matches the narrative settings in the Format menu: Tiny, Small, Medium ... etc - in a relative way, not absolute. The actual font size is not discernible anywhere. This should be an alternative setting control at the least, but the size of text must be made visible somewhere. The problem seems to be that existing html in the replied-to message dominates and sets the 'base' size on which the relative actions of increase and decrease operate. They should be disentangled.

Actual results:

A mess of various font sizes that cannot be made uniform for inserted reply text.

Expected results:

Detailed control for a default size (as well as font) so that all added text can be made to look the same (and not careless).

To get consistent fonts, use the Clear Styling button (next to Italic).

I don't think exposing font sizes further would help.

I'd not noticed that before.
The pop-up says 'Remove Styling', next to Underline.
I'll try that next time, although it does not to appear to reset size - which is what I want to do (using the notice email as a sample). It removes bold, but not the colour (grey).
It is not as comprehensive a 'remove' as I would have expected.
