User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2) Gecko/20021126 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2) Gecko/20021126 It's easy enough to illustrate by example. My friend writes a one line mail, and I do a one line reply. In composition, I ensure that only a single line of his message is quoted, but my reply (in plain text) turns out like this: My Friend wrote: >so what were you trying to say? > i was saying this .... As you can see, an extra line with a ">" was added, even though I explicitly got rid of it in the composer view. (It makes Mozilla quoting really ugly, especially compared to the nice job Outlook does of it.) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. As described Actual Results: My Friend wrote: >so what were you trying to say? > i was saying this Expected Results: My Friend wrote: >so what were you trying to say? i was saying this
is this html mail? If yes: duplicate of bug 115498
summary says "plain text" - sorry.
"Plain text" could just mean that the e-mail was sent as plain text. He didn't specifically say that he was using plaintext composer. Reporter, when you write a message or reply from your mail account, do you have an insert and format menu in the compose window?
Yes, even though I was replying to a plain text message, I had insert and format menu options. I have tried to find a way to edit as plain text instead, but can not find the option. How can I do this?
Then you are using the HTML Composer, which by default will send as plaintext if you have no formatting, or ask what to do if you do. That makes this a dup of bug 115498. To use plaintext composer, which does not suffer from this bug, check out "Mail & Newsgroup Settings" in the edit menu of Mail/News and uncheck "Compose messages in HTML format" for your account. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 115498 ***
