Details

Steps to reproduce:

Checked latest devel firefox.

Actual results:

See bug 1805924 :
A user interface with up/down buttons has been implemented for reordering entries in the extension button menu.

Expected results:

Now two different UI's exist for reordering entries:

  • The extension button menu is now reordered by up/down buttons.

  • The overflow menu, which by default sits just next to the extension menu, looks similar and serves a similar purpose, is reordered by drag and drop.

Having two completely different user interfaces for reordering almost identical things is completely silly and unacceptable from usability design and the users point of view. It breaks user interface consistency and uniformity. One expects to be able to do the same thing in the same way everywhere.

Moreover, the way the extension button menu is reordered is by far inferior and significantly less comfortable than the way the overflow menu is reordered (see also last hidden comment in bug 1805924 ).

So please make the extension button menu reorderable by drag and drop in the same way as the overflow menu from within the "customize toolbar" mode. That's what users expect and where the reorder mechanism belongs to.

Or drop that silly extension button completely. From the users point of view and wrt. usability design, it is a bad UI design and has no reason to exist. It just takes up additional space and clutters the user interface for no gains. The overflow button menu already served the same purpose very well, much better than the new extension button does. I do not understand why a perfectly working, intuitive, well-integrated and user-friendly mechanism has been replaced by something inferior.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'WebExtensions::Untriaged' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.
