Per https://glandium.github.io/firefox-linux-compat-matrix/#scope=build&version=115&show_eol=false, Ubuntu 18.04 is the last non-EOLed distro to not have GCC >= 8. Olivier, would it cause problems for Ubuntu if we went ahead with this?

I got confirmation over IRC that this is fine: 18.04 is EOL and there is no new releases of Firefox planned there. Plus GCC-8 is in this release.

(In reply to Alexandre LISSY :gerard-majax from comment #5)
I got confirmation over IRC that this is fine: 18.04 is EOL
it's LTS until 2028
and there is no new releases of Firefox planned there.
I guess that's what matters most.
Plus GCC-8 is in this release.
There actually isn't. There's gcc-8-base, all the libs, but no gcc itself. See http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gcc-8/
