Note

  • When the user reaches the PiP's URL bar entry point by keyboard navigation while using ORCA Screen Reader, he will notice that the tooltip read is long and confusing:
"Open picture dash in dash picture left parent(hesis) control plus shift plus right bracket right parent(hesis)."
  • It would be a lot less confusing of the some of it wasn't vovcalised, like excluding the words "dash" and the mentions of left and right parenthesis.

Found in

  • Beta v114.0b7

Affected versions

  • Beta v114.0b7

Tested platforms

  • Affected platforms: Ubuntu 22+ORCA
  • Unaffected platforms: ?

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch ORCA.
  2. launch Firefox.
  3. Load a page with any video (like YT).
  4. Navigate to the PiP URL bar entry point.

Expected result

  • The Screen Reader's vocalization is short and clear.

Actual result

  • Orca reads: "Open picture dash in dash picture left parent(hesis) control plus shift plus right bracket right parent(hesis)."

Regression range

  • Not a regression.

Additional notes

  • The other Operating Systems and their respective screen readers are to be verified soon as well.

:danibodea, if you think that's a regression, could you try to find a regression range using for example mozregression?

Thanks for reporting. Screen readers have a punctuation level setting which specifies how much punctuation to report. I guess it is set pretty high by default with Orca. The default is less verbose with other screen readers. In any case, this can be changed and users would expect to hear this punctuation if configured as such. Thus, I'm closing this because it is the expected behaviour.
