My understanding is alt+1 goes to the first tab, which is always an email folder tab - that folder can be anything, no necessarily the Inbox. So if you have used alt+1 in the past and it always and only went to Inbox, then that capability was supplied by something other than Thunderbird.

This works for me on 102, beta and daily on Windows 10. I don't have Windows 11 to test.
(but I didn't test starting from a mail tab)
ALT-1 Inbox.
ALT-2 Address Book
ALT-3 Calendar
ALT-4 Tasks
All work except ALT-1 WHEN YOU ARE IN AN EMAIL TAB as stated in title.
This are TB shortcuts.
I am reporting it for 114.b4 and b5.
I think it worked in b3.

Seems WFM. Alt +1 brings me to the first tab (3pane mail) even if I was in an email tab. (Daily on linux).

ctrl+1 fails for me on Mac with 115.0a1 (2023-05-25). Which should work according to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-thunderbird?redirectslug=keyboard-shortcuts&redirectlocale=en-US#w_calendar

This was done on purpose because the messages opened in a tab are part of the Mail Space, and we didn't want to accidentally switch back to the initial mail 3 pane if the user is reading an email.
Looking at it more closely, I think it makes sense to keep the shortcuts consistently opening the first tab even if the current focus is on another tab in the same space.
I'll propose a patch.
Not a regression since this was done on purpose.

(In reply to dquiros from comment #11)
still not working on 116.0b6
You are trying to be helpful, but we know it's not fixed so status updates telling what we already know are unfortunately not helpful.

some times things get fixed without ticket update. so instead of saying "any update?" I decided to update that it still not working in 117.0b1.

It's a P3, not a blocker and we're still exploring what is the proper way to fix this since the old behavior was technically incorrect.

what does P3 mean?
CTRL numbers work as expected.
ALT 1 doesnt work from an email tab.
from an email tab:
ALT 1 doesnt work
ALT 2 Address Book
ALT 3 Calendar
ALT 4 Tasks
ALT 5 Chat in a new tab
ALT 1 works from any of this tabs.
Cant see the logic for ALT 1 not working from an email tab if the other ALT # do.
not really sure what the "old behavior" was.
