User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20021205 Chimera/0.6+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20021205 Chimera/0.6+ Add a small red counter on the top right of the icon in the Dock to show how many downloads are still running, à la Mail (new emails). That red icon can perhaps be a "large" arrow pointing down to illustrate the download concept, rather than just a circle like in Mail. A small red dot (without number) could also be added on the small earth icon at the right of the status bar but it will be probably too much if you are on a secure site (locker). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
The mail flag is important because new mail is often of interest for immediate attention. I don't see how this is useful in the same way.
One bug per issue, please. I agree to Simon.
For users with a slow internet connection, just moving the mouse over the Dock will show them that the downloads are not yet finished. Without that you must bring Chimera to the front, perhaps open the DL manager, etc... You get the idea.
If Chimera *had* a DL manager, surely I'd agree. What's your take on this, Pinkerton?
We will see Bug 174906
Why does the completion of a download require attention to merit this kind of feedback?
I would prefer a progress meter in the icon, the way PhotoShop does it when you are saving a large file. This would make even more sense if the download window was not a window at all, but a "docklet" type of dock icon instead, with contextual menus replacing the commands that are currently icons at the top of the window.
We have another bug on dock icon feedback I think, but I can't find it.

dupe of bug 71657?
No that us for Mozilla.
I'm not sure downloads are something we care to represent in the dock icon. If Camino was made for downloading, ala p2p apps, then I can see it's use. But downloading is typically a secondary thing and thus, not the primary function. Only primary functions are typically shown in a dock icon. Or am I wrong? Suggesting WONTFIX.
interesting idea, but would people ever make the connection? with mail it's pretty obvious what the number means.
We have a perfectly good download manager (well, one that only allows two downloads at a time, but...), and I don't see how sticking some tiny blob on the Dock icon is going to be helpful at all. Further, I second Samuel's analysis of primary/secondary fuctions in comment 11 and concur with his suggested resolution.
I agree with mikes aswell as samuel's assesments. We primerily are a browser, if we would show something in the dock you'd indeed assume it was related to webpages. So I agree that we should WONTFIX this.
wontfix. we should add growl support if people really want this kind of notification.
