+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1817914 +++
Using Tags folder pane mode on a profile with a large number of folders is unresponsive. Looks like many folders are searched for tags which opens many MSF files at once.
Most OS have a limitation of about 500 open file handles, at least Windows has.
We used Tags folder pane mode on a profile with about 1500 folders. After a while, MSF files belonging to news folders were missing and we were prompted to download headers again. After restoring the MSF files from backup, all was working again.

CC'ing Richard Leger on this since he normally runs with lots of folders (maybe > 1500?). Don't know if he is running 115 though.
This bug reminds me of bug 1726319, but that report didn't get to the root of the problem until way down at bug 1726319 comment 151.

Richard, are you seeing this?
Tested in 124.0b2 (64-bit) on Windows 10 but result non-conclusive...
My computer fan start to run shortly after I enable Tags view, and Thunderbird UI seems to reactive slower, but I don't get Not Responding... it remain re-active... that said, if I mark messages in my Inbox as important it does not appear in the Tags > Important view. So not sure it is actually scanning my emails for tags... I don't see Thunderbird trying to open and scan folder either in the status bar. None of my Tags views are showing any emails... looking at disk activity I don't see Thunderbird trying to access .msf file, so in my case, it may be that Tags view is simply not working as expected in that version of TB. I am not sure how long I am suppose to wait for the Tags view to become effective... it could be that like the Unfided Folder View issue, that none of my folders are set to be selected for Tags scanning... but I can't find any settings that allow me to verify or modify which folder are set to be scanned for Tags.
Fyi, synchronisation on my IMAP account is set to only cache 3 days worth of email and only for Inbox and Inbox/Sent folders.
