RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 218917

People

(Reporter: Webworkr, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 10; K) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/114.0.0.0 Mobile Safari/537.36

Actual results:

Anyone who is logged into Bugzilla can see everyone's email address.

Expected results:

In a corporate environment, this practice may make sense, but in a public bug tracker, I don't think it applies.

To ensure privacy and avoid spam, the visibility of the email address should be limited by default. The user should be able to decide whether to publish it or not. Compare the principle with GitHub.

duplicate of bug 215439?

Yes, it looks like it.

Unbelievable that the mentioned bug has already been open for 20 years without offering a final solution until today. And this, where it is nowadays standard in forums, portals & Co to keep the email address private. One gets the impression that they are not seriously interested in a solution. Regrettable! :-(

"Unbelievable" statements don't help - feel free to travel back in time and write a fix for this 20 years ago.

This isn't the best bug to duplicate it against as BMO is a hard fork from "upstream", and that change isn't one that we're comfortable cherry-picking. To avoid further bug churn I'll leave it as-is.

We have strong a desire to make email address private, however sadly it isn't something that we've been able to find the resources for.
