Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/116.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Enter full screen on a video (YouTube, Netflix, etc.) in a fresh tab
  2. Click/change focus to a window on the other monitor
  3. Pause the full screen video
  4. "website is now full screen" message does not disappear

Following the steps with "full-screen-api.warning.timeout" set to greater than 0 causes the "website is now full screen" to pop up a second time and disappear at the set amount of time. This only seems to occur if the steps are performed before the original message disappears.

Actual results:

"website is now full screen" message shows and does not disappear

Expected results:

"website is now full screen" does not appear at all, since "full-screen-api.warning.timeout" is set to 0

this bug is reproducible even with one monitor.

  1. open a video, for example on youtube.com.
  2. enter full screen mode by pressing "F" key or clicking the player button (not by double-clicking).
  3. switch to another window, including PiP.
  4. return to the window with video.

this useless message is so annoying...

gkcrandal, please remove "with dual monitors" from bug title.

Firefox 115 is okey.

Can confirm the bug also appears on Linux with Gnome since Firefox 116.

Summary: "website is now full screen" message appears and does not disappear when "full-screen-api.warning.timeout" is set to 0 with dual monitors → "website is now full screen" message appears and does not disappear when "full-screen-api.warning.timeout" is set to 0

I Experience the same issue,
I use a lot of alt + tab , and I noticed that this happens as soon as you altab away from fullscreen youtube and then alt tab back again
I am using 117.0b3 (64-bit) on Windows.

I couldn't reproduce while full-screen-api.warning.timeout is set to 0, therefore I'm only changing the component to Audio/Video.

Component: Untriaged → Audio/Video: Playback
Product: Firefox → Core

i don't know if it helps, but i dd notice , that if the video on YT is not playing the issue does not always happen.
if the video is playing i do get the message always
i made 2 screen recordings of it
see: http://nl.pjottrr.nl/write/FF

i hope this helps a bit

Same on Linux with KDE.
Also happens by using +/- volume buttons on keyboard, without switching to another window.

Mozregression points to Bug 1821884 (restricted):

But also it seems fixed for me in recent Nightly. And mozregression points to Bug 1847901 as fix:

10:12.49 INFO: Narrowed integration fix window from [578b082b, c162e530] (3 builds) to [7eaa7860, c162e530] (2 builds) (~1 steps left)

So should be fixed in 116.0.3

Thank you very much for identifying the regressor and fix.
