Windows OS
beta 117.0b1
A new toolbar exists above the Quick Filter Toolbar.
It contains:
- Quick Filter button
- icon - Message list display options
Both of those icons are required for all views regarding Thread Pane and therefore should be located on the 'Mail' Unified Toolbar' which was designed for this purpose.
I request an enhancement to move both of those icons onto the Unified Toolbar positioned on the right side to the left of the Menu app icon by default.
Other information on the left of toolbar offers status information regarding:
- selected folder
- total number of messages in folder.
This status information should be moved onto the Status bar designed to contain such information.
Information regarding what folder is selected is already mentioned in three additional location - titlebar, tab, folder pane.
Total number of messages can also be enabled in folder pane.
It would be an improvement if the total of 'unread messages' could also be displayed in the Status bar.
This would then mean you can remove that toolbar completely and this would be a good design advantage especially to those with limited vertical space on smaller devices.
However, it would benefit everyone in two ways:
- increasing visibility of number of messages that can be displayed in thread pane list
- permits increasing the visible height of the Message Pane facilitating greater amount of message content displayed and reducing scrolling.
The area could then be used by:
- the 'Quick Filter Bar' if enabled
- by the bar containing the Thread Pane column headers if Quick Filter Bar is disabled.
Image shows the toolbar I'm discussing and requesting the removal thereof.
Many thanks.

You can add the QFB in the mail toolbar if you want.
The Message list display options is a button that it's contextually connected to the message list and it wouldn't make sense having it in the toolbar.
It's a button that offers some layout changing options, that are also available in the menubar and app menu.
Other information on the left of toolbar offers status information regarding:

The status bar is getting removed in the next version, so we're moving all of these info outside of that area.
If you find the message header area not needed you can hide it if you want. As yous aid all those information can be showed somewhere else.
The only missing info would be the selected message count, but that is represented int he message pane header (only for a single thread for now, more improvements to come).
This is a transitional UI that is expecting to receive more work and improvements.
Things will improve with time.

Not sure why that's necessary. Visually, I think it improves a window if it has a top and bottom eg: titlebar and status bar.
Please make sure you have a replacement for all the neccessary data it can display if required or normally contains.
In addition to all the usual stuff like online /offline, Today pane etc
example:
I hover over links to see the 'real' link before I click on a link and that info is displayed in the Status bar. I use the status bar a lot.
icon - Message list display options
Can this be added to Unified Folder?
