The menu item 'Run Filters on Selected Folder' consistently and properly
executes the active filters. However, the 'Run Now' button on the Filters
window, which should theoretically function identically for a single filter
(rather than all of them) does not always work. In a folder with 3 filters, I
was modifying one filter and running it repeatedly. Even though there was
absolutely no doubt it matched some of the messages in the selected folder, the
filter log was empty and none of the messages were affected by the filter
action... SOMETIMES. I modified and re-ran the filter (with the Run Now button)
over a dozen times with many variations of filters. All the filters were simple,
with only a single clearly defined match parameter. I used several different
types of match parameters. Sometimes the same filter which worked previously did
not at a later point... clicking Run Now did nothing, where in an earlier
attempt it affected the appropriate messages.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create several message rules for your primary (first) set of mail folders. I
do not know if several rules are required to reproduce the problem, but I have
several.
2. Modify the first rule several times, tailoring it to match a different set of
emails each time. Suggested filters include Junk Status, Subject matching (those
were the primary filters I was using during my testing). Suggested actions are
changing the priority of the message... so you don't alter any important mail
inadvertantly.
3. After every change, select the filter and click 'Run Now'. View the log to
see if it affected any email. Changes to message priority will not appear until
you click back on the primary mail window (lazy updating).
Actual Results:
The filter does not affect any mail a significant percentage of the time,
despite clearly matching emails.
Expected Results:
The filter should run every time, affecting email every time the Run Now button
is pressed.
With this bug in place, there is no reliable and easy way to run only a single
filter on a selected folder.

I got the same non-functioning 'Run Now' on the Message Filters dialog. It
happened every time for me, until I noticed that I didn't have a folder
specified for 'Manually run selected filter(s) on folder'. As long as I specify
a folder, the 'Run Now' button works fine. Maybe if the top-level mail account
is selected (instead of, say, 'Inbox'), it should run on all the folders for
that account???
