Details

user_pref("browser.block.target_new_window", true); forces all "new window" targets to go into the same window. I've had this on for a while now, and I've seen quite a few requests for same on the list, another one today so I'm filing a bug for it ;-)

Does this pref open the url in a new tab or does it override the current url?
It disables targets that are "new window" forcing the new page to load in the current session. So, no new tab, no new window. the back button will work.
Perhaps refamping this pref to be able to force the new url's in a new tab would be more handy (tabbed browsing) since it would not override the current url and it would respect the url's choise to open a new view.
