+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1569439 +++
I'm using tiling window managers (leftwm and sway) but saw this on Gnome too.

Reproduction:

  • Open two windows side by side.
  • Hover a tab, or HTML element with tooltip. But I'll use the tab as an example.
  • Switch to the other window or desktop.
  • The tooltip doesn't go away for a long time (at least 30 seconds) until you hover this tab again.
  • If the tab changes its name, the new tooltip won't be the same so hovering over the tab won't help.

Was very excited to see Bug 1824887 get fixed and waited for my distro to finally catch up only to see the problem wasn't fixed so I'm going to follow this issue as it's still happening for me.

Excuse me, I meant Bug 1843205, the parent of duplicate Bug 1824887.

In my case, I'm seeing the problem every time on sway (Wayland): any tooltips in Firefox or Thunderbird get stuck when I switch to other desktop. No need to minimize the window.

After all these years, this is now almost as comical as Chromium's "Chromium didn't shut down correctly" 😄

Is this still happening on firefox nightly? Looking at the description, I think this should be fixed by 148624... since the firefox window should lose focus when switching to another window/desktop.

You are right, it appears to be fixed in Nightly 120.

Then I think this should be closed as duplicate of 148624.
