User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/116.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
My Inbox has several subfolders divided by Mailing lists or otherwise by from contacts. I have several years of mails online, I only archive them after 4 years.
I use sort by date, on top it's the oldest, at bottom it's the newest. Mails are not grouped.
Often at program start, Inbox folder is selected BUT I don't see last mails at bottom, it's positioned even in the middle, pointing to mails from 2021 and not the last one from 2023.
Change folder, it sometimes sees the last mails, sometimes in the middle or in any case randomly positioned. Change folder again to root of inbox, the mails visible are in another position again.
Actual results:
At program start or as soon a folder is selected, it's not guaranteed that last mails are visible in the right panel. I remember it was correctly always selected in older Thunderbird version than 115
Expected results:
The last mails should be always visible whenever a folder is selected.

iancoog7102,
Does this still reproduce?
Seems likely to me this would have been fixed by bug 1866553
