Steps to reproduce:

Select Font Size from Settings -- including the Advanced font size selection. Changed to Garamond 20 pt

Actual results:

Fonts did not change size the way they did in v114

Expected results:

Font sizes in the message pane and the other main panes of the email tab should have changed. (I don't remember if the font sizes throughout the UI [including tabs, menu bars, toolbars, etc] used to change, but whatever behavior was there before isn't there now.)

Suggest you post a question in the Support Forum to get some help on sorting out the issue.
But as aheads up:
You said you changed font to Garamond but did you set this up for BOTH 'Fonts for : 'Latin 'AND 'Other Writing Systems' ?
Setting fonts for just Latin does not effect emails sent using unicode, hence the need to set fornts for 'Other Writing Systems' as well.
Changing the font only effects the emails received/viewing content and emails you compose/write.
It does not effect font in other areas. This has always been the case.

Testing with 119.0b3
I'm not having any problems with altering font size, but the recent upgrades to 115* have caused many issues with fonts.
All the problems I've come across so far are down to users not knowing how to use the various font size set ups in the various areas.
When it comes to reading /writing emails - In particular they just set up for 'Latin' but not for 'Other Writing Systems' so many emails appear not to see a change in size.
One oddity is some weirdness where minimum font size got set way higher than everything else and it overruled all other settings, so some people had gigantic fonts.

The information you supplied is exactly what I expected.
I have seen plenty of cases like this in the Support Forum where people have got settings which mean whatever they try and choose it does not have the expected outcome. For some unknown reason all is out of synch and the minimum font size is always set way too high and it overrides everything.

You have settings state your minimum size is larger than all other settings.
example:

font.size.fixed.x-unicode 14
font.minimum-size.x-unicode 16

So size 14 is being overridden by the minimum setting of 16
There are also other settings which need some editing so everything is balanced.

I suggest you do the following to reset these sizes and then report back on whether you have same problem.

• Settings > General

• Scroll to bottom and clickon 'config Editor' - it opens in a new tab

• In top search type: minimum.size

• Look for: font.minimum-size.x-unicode

• Click on far right pencil icon to get edit mode

• Remove the number '16'

• Type in : 12

• Click on the 'tick' icon to save

• Look for : font.minimum-size.x-western

• Perform same action - remove the 18 and type in 12 and save

Then set all other settings to same font size and I suggest you try size 14 depending upon how large you need the font.
Please note whatever is set will be your 'medium' font size.

• In top search type: size.fixed

• Look for: font.size.fixed.x-western

• Perform same action as before - Remove the 18 and type in 14 and save

• Look for : font.size.monospace.x-western

• Perform same action as before - Remove the 18 and type in 14 and save

• In top search type: size.variable

• Look for: font.size.variable.tr 17

• Perform same action as before - Remove the 17 and type in 14 and save

• Look for: font.size.variable.x-baltic

• Perform same action as before - Remove the 17 and type in 14 and save

• Look for: font.size.variable.x-central-euro

• Perform same action as before - Remove the 17 and type in 14 and save

• Look for: font.size.variable.x-western

• Perform same action as before - Remove whatever is set and type in 14 and save

Then check the following is set as follows

• SEttings > Composition
• Scroll to HTML Style section
• Font : Variable width
• Size: Medium

Note 'Medium' will now be size 14 for when you are composing emails. It is a good benchmarch to check whether you need to tweak setting to suit your needs.

The exit Thunderbird, wait a few moments and restart.

Please report on results.

I would say the main 'bug' which people are experiencing is the minimum size setting for western and unicode.
Why are these settings being altered so frquently when peopl update?

I keep seeing this in Support Forum and I would say this is also effecting all the other people reporting this bug .
The only way we would for sure is to ask them to post the same information as in this case.

Well of course, any time someone goes in to the Config editor, they're following what is supposed to be good advice from some other user (who has a high probability of being wrong). That's what got me here.

Given the evidence that minimum font size is going to be misunderstood, there seem to be three strategies (since you can't really make the users smarter):

• have the parameters explained someplace like here (https://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries#Font.) and point to it from enough places that Google finds it
• change the name of the parameter so it doesn't confuse the idiot on the web (good luck!)
• change the behavior of the parameter.
