Steps to reproduce:

Open a folder with more messages than can fit in the message list display area. Read the newest messages, one at a time until all the unread messages in the current message list area are read.

Actual results:

If the messages are sorted with the newest at the bottom, the last read message is at the top of the message list display area.

Expected results:

I expect the displayed messages list to slide upwards maintaining the current read message in about the middle of the displayed messages area. Older unread messages are shown above the current selected message. This is the behavior in Thunderbird 102.
