Currently, a Thunderbird release is tagged in Mercurial during the Ship phase: both the BUILDn and RELEASE tags.
Early tagging adds the BUILDn tag during release promotion. This is beneficial as right now if there is a BUILD2, the BUILD1 tag is never added and is essentially lost information.
Not really a hard requirement for monthlies, but the information is very helpful to have.
