That's not a hotkey, but an accesskey which wasn't part of the name (usually since all suitable keys were taken). With the menu open you can access the menu item by pressing the key (with no modifiers).

Anyway, I don't see a Z there a all, so not sure what's going on. Are you using some localized build? Are you using the latest Thunderbird 115 version?

Is it worth adding also a shortcut key? (perhaps the same used in the other mode, Ctrl+L)

I am using the latest Thunderbird 115, and sfhowes confirmed that it is there, so I do not really know what is going on...

You first have to select edit events and tasks in a tab instead of in a dialog window.

Can reproduce in TB129.0a1 (2024-06-28) (64-bit) @ Win10-64bit:

Steps to reproduce

1. settings > calendar > select checkbox edit events and tasks in a tab instead of in a dialog window
2. go to calendar
3. new event
4. main menu > file > save and close (z)

This is related to bug 1379777. I don't know if you want to track the entire issue there or separately.
