User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/115.0

Steps to reproduce:

Shifting of window edges reacts reluctantly and takes up to 10 seconds.
Supernova 115.15.1 (32Bit); Win10 pro (32Bit)

Expected results:

Reaktion shouldbe immediately, as in V. 102.15.1

...Sorry for the typing mistake...
Of course it is Supernova V. 15.5.1 ...

You mean 115.5.1 or latest release 115.5.2. You're referring to resizing the window?

115.5.1 (32-Bit). 115.5.1 was not offered yet...
Yes. Resizing the (vertikal) window under the mail list, showing the contents of the selected mail.
Hope it's clear now what I mean...

Version: 15 Branch → Thunderbird 115

...again a typing mistake... :-( :
115.5.2 was not offered yet...

I installed now Version 115.5.2 (32-Bit) ...
Also here exists the issue...

I installed now V115.6.1
The effekt is still the same.
With an absolutely clean ("virgin") profile (no addons, no bookmarks, nothing, only 1 POP3 and 1 IMAP account) I found that with a big amount of Mails in the "local folder" it gets worse the larger the folder becomes.
I copied out to the local folders 2 subfolders which contain also sub-subfolders, one approx 450MB and the other about 90MB out of the Local Folders of V. 102.15.1 to the test-version 115.6.1...

However, V. 102.15.1 works trouble-free with a total size of 6.5GB ... No delay shifting the window borders...
What is different in this respect at V. 115 ?

So many changes - so not possible to review them all.

Mausebaer,
Do you still see this in version 128?
If you do, please see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiling-thunderbird-performance to get a performance profile.

...regretably yes. It takes about 7 seconds before the border moves after trying to shift it...

Version 102.15.1 (32-Bit) seems to be the latest which worked correctly.

Thanks for testing.

If 115.0 can be tested, then we would know if this potentially was caused by supernova, which IIRC landed around nightly version 112 in January 2023. https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/ could help you find a regression range

I tested it now with Ver. 115.5.2 (32-Bit) and can confirm that the issue seems to exist since Supernova was introduced.
At the moment I'm still working with Ver. 102.15.1 (32-Bit), the last 102-Version, because the behaviour of later versions are not acceptable for me.
BTW, I'm using portable TB versions... But this should not have influence on the behaviour...??? My Email-Datebase (Local folders) is outside of the profile...

Thanks. Ideally we'd want a performance profile with version 128.

...what does that mean for me...? Can I help somehow?

See the link to the tool in comment 7.

Yes, I still see that in V. 128.5.2...

Summary: V115.15.1 (Supernova) Shifting of window border lasts up to 10 sconds → V115.15.1 (Supernova) Shifting of window border lasts up to 10 seconds

I'll be trying to get the performance profile, but I haven't done something like this before...

...By now I haven't mangaged to generate a performance profile, but I tested V. 128.5.2 (portable version) with just 1 account and 1 email in the local folder. Shifting the borders reacts instantly...

However, with my working dirctory Local Folders which contains about 6 GB email data the reaction lasts at least 5-6 seconds...
So it seems to have to do with the size of the local folders directory or with the number of mailaccounts...

Somebody seems to have tinkered with the border management creating Supernova...
But acutally there shouldn't be any interaction IMHO...

With V. 102.15.1 (32-Bit) ist still works perfectly also with my large &GB Local Folder... (See also my comment 6)
Who has touched this part of code?

btw, I have 18 mailaccounts in my TB...

Who has touched this part of code?

Entirely rewritten in version 115.

How is 128.7.0?

Flags: needinfo?(Mausebaer_m)

I have now Win11(64) on a new PC, wich is much faster than the old one. Howewer, latency of about 1-2 seconds is still there (with 128.7.0) what is somehow disturbing. It's not OK yet, but one could live with it... What is the reason for the rewrite of the before well working feature...?

1-2 seconds when resizing windows elements?
I don't see other bugs matching this, in https://mzl.la/3EOLyYO

What is the reason for the rewrite of the before well working feature...?

Working, but not maintainable and extensible, for starters. Some examples and improvements mentioned in:

Perhaps this will be helped by bug 1860094. It might appear in 128.8.0esr.

Depends on: 1860094

I'm not sure, but this could be the same issue...
What I mean is the window edge between the email list ande the preview window. Trying to shift this edge / border has a latency of 1-2 seconds, on a very fast PC...

Any news?

I tested it now with Ver. 128.9.2 (esr) and it seems as if the bug has been repaired...
Window border shifting reacts now immediately.
Can anybody confirm the bugrepair?

Thanks for the update. You are only one active in this bug report, so I doubt anyone else can confirm.
Let's close this WFM - it can be reopened if needed.
