User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 This is super wierd. Been using 1.2.1 since it came out. It worked fine until yesterday evening. As far as I can tell, nothing changed between when it worked and didn't work. The program wasn't even closed once all day until it crashed the first time. Whenever an EXE or ZIP file link is clicked on, Mozilla dies silently. I have not tested any other file types. Images load fine. I have deleted ProgFiles/Mozilla several times and reinstalled. Didn't help. This leads me to believe that this is corrupt somehow in my user profile. So, logically, I figured this is something to do with mime types, and went to Prefs->Navigator->HelperApps. As usual, only text/html there. I clicked Reset a few times just in case it could repair itself. This did not affect the situation. I cannot reproduce this on other WinXP machines. Please advise quickly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to URL above 2. Click on first download link 3. Only on my computer does it seem to crash at that point Actual Results: Crash, no dialogs or even Windows crash errors. Mozilla just disappears from the task list. Expected Results: Downloaded the file. I can't seem to find a way to get any more information. If replied to quickly, I can keep this install/profile active until someone can give me good directions on what they need from me.
try changing to a default theme, quit mozilla and quickstart if running, then delete the file XUL.mfl in your profile directory. Restart. Any change?
Yes, that did it quite nicely. The new XUL.mfl is quite a bit smaller. This file is some kind of cache? I assume this is a known bug? Please Resolve accordingly.
Yes, XUL.mfl is a chrome cache file. 3-4MB is a common size after some times usage. For the curiosity of it: Which theme were you using? (Also please add a Talkback ID if you have one from the crashes.)
Summary: Crash *Every Time* EXE or ZIP link is clicked on. → Crash *Every Time* EXE or ZIP link is clicked on. [corrupted XUL.mfl]
I am using the Classic theme under XP. Nothing fancy. I do have graymodern installed, but I haven't used that since 1.0.1.
Dropping severity to critical. Probably is a dupe, just can't find the correct bug at the moment.

This is not the same thing. He hangs, I just shut down.

Based on description and comment 2: This bug could be marked as depending on bug 169777. NB: I don't say "duplicate" according to comment 8...
Dupe. If you can reproduce this on a current nightly trunk build, please report that to bug 169777.
No longer blocks: FastLoadMeta
Reporter: is this still a problem on a recent build?
I see this on mozilla 1.3 for linux (I use the rh8 rpm's with xft). When I click on a link to download an exe file mozilla exits. I use the classic theme. If I delete ~/.mozilla and start over everything works but with my old profile it crashes. I don't seem to have an XUL.mfl that you have been talking about. I do have a XUL.mfasl though. I tried to stop mozilla, delete this file and start mozilla again but with no effect. It still crashes when I try to download an exe.
I started a fresh profile yesterday and it did work to click on exe-files. Today I clicked on a .tar.gz and mozilla died again. Up until and including 1.3b I didn't have a problem like this. I could have sworn that this was a new bug introduced after 1.3b, still people here have had the problem before. For me I will just downgrade to 1.3b again and see if that stops it.
WFM on WinXP trunk 2003102804. Please try again.
Was most likely dup of one of the many XUL.mfl corruption bugs, known to cause crashes or hangs. There hasn't been traffic here for almost a year so this doesn't seem to be a problem for anyone anymore. Resolving as WFM per reporter's comment #2.
