User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:121.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/121.0
Steps to reproduce:
Installed several mail account, gmail being the problem folder.
Actual results:
Gmail (account name in my system) has a twisty beside the name so I know there is subfolder(s) or files.
Clicking on the twisty beside the account name in the folder pane to expand and collapse the account, the display jumps.
Expected results:
Should simply expand and show contents.
This is an annoyance and as far as I can tell and does not cause any problems.
I have a 2nd profile. It's closer to a virgin profile. I use it to test light themes.
It too has the same issue. The only difference is that this gmail folder has 2 items below it, archive and trash. When I expand that account the trash ONLY jumps, and the archive is steady. I don't use archive so I'm not sure why one profile has archive and the other doesn't.
All accounts are IMAP both profiles.
In the video at 0:03 the "gmail" folder has disappeared completely, so two lines "gmail" and its Trash disappear and reappear causing a visual jump.
The folder/account list looks very strange, you have an inbox at the same level of servers (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, verizon). How is that done? And "gmail" doesn't have an inbox?
I'm using Unified folders. Thus the Inbox (all of them) the Sent, trash, junk, archive etc for all emails, then the account names, feeds and local folders. Takes up less room if you have 6 accounts. Comcast does not show for some reason in Unified, but does if turned off. Never been able to fix this or report it.
Right, I see it now. The Gmail Trash should be in the unified Trash, no? And if it is, the Gmail account should be removed, since all the folder are in the unified section.
I changed my display out of Unified to ALL. And Gmail has 2 trash. Probably why one is in the unified trash and one under the account.

The Unified is really kind of a mess. Here is a screenshot with all the accounts expanded.

Something wrong with the Gmail trash. Can you delete one of them? Or withdraw the Trash flag using this add-on:
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/folderflags/
And looking at that Unified picture, Hotmail is IMAP, all are IMAP, and yet hotmail says it has a POP folder. Don't know how that works!! LOL
Here is a snippet from developer tools.
https://i.postimg.cc/q7wcdPsM/Gmail-Trash-folder.png
And I added that extension and the properties of that folder, tags tab, shows that folder NOT trash. I did the same thing with the gmail trash in the unified trash and it did show a check mark in the tags tab.
I'm supposing I'm using that extension properly. Just right click a folder and properties then the tags tab?
I made a backup of my .thunderbird folder for safety.
I deleted the trash under the account and the account disappeared. (Unified display).
I found it in trash two of them so I deleted it there too.
Now I have no gmail account showing in the list. I have the account, just no "account" below the unified trash.
Looking at the other accounts, yahoo, hotmail, verizon, they all have some folders under them as you can see in one of the above screenshots.
Seems as if the account shows if there are these oddity folders. But not for (now) my gmail and comcast accounts.
Renaming and restoring my back without the internet shows the gmail account and that extra trash under it. But when I turn on the internet, the 2nd gmail trash disappears. The only gmail trash is in a subfolder "ImapMail/imap.gmail.com/[Gmail].sbd" . Not in the imap.gmail.com folder with the other folders (sent, inbox etc).
I think when I deleted the 2nd trash being IMAP it was deleted from the gmail server. That's why (I suspect) when I turned on the internet it disappeared.
Any of this making sense?

Is the jumping gone? To "refresh" the united folders, you can also delete Mail/smart mailboxes
while TB isn't running.
There's also https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/unified-folders-debugging/, I had mixed success with that (so be sure to have a backup).

Yes since the "gmail account" which had that trash that was deleted is no longer showing. So I have no gmail to expand and see the trash and see the jumping.
This in the Unified view.
I've lost no functionality with what I did. I looked at the gmail webmail page and it looks okay, but I don't really know what it was before this. Kinda wish I had looked at the webmail side first to see where that extra trash was if it was even there.
I'm not going to, but the tree accounts left had subfolders thus that's why they show in Unified. I'm not deleting any of those, I'll live with this fine.
I guess it's just food for thought for you now, if you want it.

This is getting to be fun?! I noticed under Yahoo there was one sub folder called 'saves'. I looked at the web mail and yes, there was a saves folder.
I guess so I could save items there if I only used webmail. I deleted it, went back to TB and after a few, just like the gmail, the saves was deleted and now yahoo had no sub folders so that account name was removed.
I'm down to only 2 accounts now but they have quite a few (2-5) subs. Hotmail for one has an archive that shows under the account name in unified but not in the unified archive spot above.
I'm done for now, unless you want anything more.
