Beginning on 1/23/24 the sync success rates for the clients and tabs engines on Firefox Desktop beta began to decline (see here for details). There was also a drop in the clients engine sync success rate on Nightly starting 1/13/24 which may be related (see here). The tabs engine success rate on Nightly is also decreasing, but much more gradually.

Checking the Desktop Sync Error Message graph there is an increase in remote setup failure and UTF-8 errors for both the tabs and clients engines around the same time period.

Our current theory is that this dip was caused by this bug which landed on 1/13. It should be backed out of nightly later today, and will be backed out of beta by the end of the week. If this theory is correct, we should see improvements in the desktop tab and client engine success rates in nightly and beta that correspond to the back-outs. As the adverse impact is minor, we will continue to monitor the graphs to confirm our theory.
