Steps to reproduce:

I have configured a saved search that searches for mails addressed directly to me within my Inbox. The search is saved under the Inbox folder, i.e. Mail - Inbox - DirectlyToMe where "Mail" is an IMAP account. I enable the "All Folders" and "Unified Folders" views.

Actual results:

When clicking on the "Mail" account in the "All Folders" view all works fine. But when using the "Unified Folders" view and clicking on the unified "Inbox" folder, Thunderbird tries to lookup the folder "DirectlyToMe" on the IMAP server and fails with the following message:

"The current operation on 'DirectlyToMe' did not succeed. The mail server for account Mail responded: INBOX/DirectlyToMe doesn't exist."

Relevant debug lines with MOZ_LOG="IMAP:4" are attached.

Expected results:

Thunderbird should not try to lookup a saved search folder on the IMAP server.

No, I can no longer reproduce this with TB 128. Seems to be working fine.

There are other problems with saved searches in unified folders mode:

  • They do not appear in the Saved Search Properties of the unified folder, but are part of the count of folders shown there.
  • Renaming a saved search makes it just disappear from the unified folders view with no simple way to get it back.

Easiest solution would be to exclude saved searches from unified folders altogether (see following WIP patch), but I don't know if users depend on this feature.
