When i download a file and save it with a german umlaut (like ö, ä, ü)in
extension, a blank line is added to the download manager, which cannot be
removed from the list (i.e. name.tüt). Even when there is a second dot in the
name, like in name.tüt.txt, i got the same result.

I use the english version of mozilla with german WinXP.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download any file with "Save Link Target As..." and put in the extension a
german umlaut.
2. Open the download manager, there is a blank line.
3. Try to remove it.
Actual Results:  
A blank line appears in the download manager, and cannot be removed.

Expected Results:  
The name should be visible like others.

Now I use Mozilla 1.4. There is no blank line in the download manager anymore.
But when the downloaded file with an umlaut is selected, the file name displayed
in the bottom status line has 2 another characters instead of the umlaut and it
cannot be launched from the download manager.

Ok, I tested it with different versions as in comment 3 mentioned.

Confirming with Mozilla 1.4, Netscape 7.1
WFM with Mozilla 1.5a build 2003071608, 2003070808
All on WinNT4 German.

So it is only on the 1.4 branch. I looked deeper for this in Bugzilla and found
a new regression. See bug 208903 for details. The fix for this bug was only
checked in to the trunk, not the 1.4 branch. So that explains my test results.
IMHO this is a dupe of bug 208903.

Bug 208903 has been fixed now on the 1.4.x branch, see bug 208903 comment 37.

If I get a new 1.4.x nightly, I'll test it.

Yes, it is fixed in 1.4.1 build 2003090416.

Eugen, this bug was reported as fixed with version 1.4.1 (and presumably with 
version 1.5); are you still seeing a problem with this?

I have installed Mozilla 1.5, the reported problem with the download manager is
fixed in this version. Umlauts are handled like other characters and files with
umlauts can also be launched.
