Details

Steps to reproduce:

FfA alpha or beta since 122.x -> 125.0a1

EVERYTIME FfA (ALPHA OR BETA) RESTARTS, MY VALUES ARE VIOLATED BACK TO TYRANNY-OF-THE-DEFAULT - [FALSE] & [0].

there is no where in Settings UI to choose "do not share/sell my info" in any FfA

Actual results:

Expected results:

ALWAYS RESPECT MY CHOICES IN ABOUT:CONFIG

THIS IS NOT A DUPE. THIS IS NOT RESOVLED.

IN FF ANDROID, THERE IS NO "PRIVACY & SECURITY" EXPOSED IN UI SETTINGS.

IN FF ANDROID, THERE IS NO DO NOT SHARE/SELL MY INFO UI TOGGLE.

EVEN IF THESE DID EXIST, UI SHOULD DISPLAY CORRESPONDING ABOUT:CONFIG SETTING & REQUIRE USER UI TAP TO OVERRIDE ABOUT:CONFIG. UI OVERRIDING ABOUT:CONFIG, ABSENT USER DIRECTION TO DO, SO IS A BUG.

please do not close until/unless about:config settings are respected.

I MEANT TO SAY THERE IS NO DO NOT SHARE/SELL MY INFO LISTED UNDER P&S SETTINGS.

all else still applies.

REQUESTING ESCALATION.

"SOLUTION" GIVEN TO # 1871964 DOES NOT APPLY TO FF ANDROID 121.x -> 125.0a1. THERE IS NO DO NOT SHARE/SELL MY DATA UI TOGGLE IN FF ANDROID.

SUMMARILY CLOSING 1885785 IS A DEFECT COVER-UP & UNDERMINES FAITH IN BUGZILLA.

Firefox for Android now supports enabling Global Privacy Control. With this feature, Firefox informs websites that the user doesn’t want their data to be shared or sold. This feature is enabled by default in private browsing mode and can be enabled in normal browsing in Settings → Enhanced Tracking Protection -> Tell websites not to share & sell data toggle.

FF ON WIN DESKTOP - TRUE

FF ON ANDROID - ONLY FOR PBMODE, NOT STD

FF DESKTOP NEVER OVERRIDES MY ABOUT:CONFIG GPC STD [TRUE] & COOKIEBANNER.SERVER.MODE [1]. COOKIEBANNER.SERVER.MODE.PBROWSE IS DEFAULT [1].

FF ANDROID BETA & ALPHA VIOLATE MY ABOUT:CONFIG COOKIEBANNER.SERVER.MODE [1] ON EVERY RESTART. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GPC!

STOP QUOTING PR COPY & CHECK THE ACTUAL BROWSER MISBEHAVIOR.

MY FF ANDRIOD ENHANCED TRACKING PROTECTION IS SET TO STRICT IN SETTNGS UI. HAS NO EFFECT OF ENABLING GPC IN STD TABS.

THIS IS A STD MODE GPC BUG.

i manually ENABLE GLOBAL PRIVACY CONTROL [TRUE] and cookiebanner.service.mode [1] in about:config.
there is no where in Settings UI to choose "do not share/sell my info" in any FfA

Your description is confusing.
There is a Settings UI to choose "do not share/sell my info" in Firefox Android.
Open "Settings" -> "Enhanced Tracking Protection" -> "Tell website not to share & sell data"

What do you mean "i manually ENABLE GLOBAL PRIVACY CONTROL [TRUE] "?

cookiebanners.service.mode is update by the preference value of "Settings" -> "Enhanced Tracking Protection" -> "Tell website not to share & sell data" . It is by design.
It is a single way update (from Firefox Android's settings -> about:config), not bi-directional (not about:config -> Firefox Android's settings) .

wti0, please stop writing everything in capital letters. It makes it significantly more difficult to read your comments, and is can also be understood as shouting, which is not perceived as particularly friendly.

  1. normally, i use CAPS for emphasis.

when i use ALL caps, it so so that i can see what i type. i have daily changes in my vision (prismatic & spherical) that are borderline disabling & can't be corrected w/ lenses, b/c the vision degradation varies. on some days, i am best able to see ALL CAPS. i don't yell at anyone, even when i'm being ignored or misrepresented. i look for someone better to assist. yelling never elevates the other person's intelligence.

  1. cookiebanners.service.mode has NOTHING to do with GPC. it suppossedly dismisses CYA cookie authorization banner requests.
FfA Settings UI can force cookiebanners.service.mode.privateBrowsiing to 1, but NOT for cookiebanners.service.mode. the UI only describes privateBrowsing.

IF FfA manually re-writes cookiebanners.service.mode.privateBrowsiing to 1, it should should not also re-write my auto:config
cookiebanners.service.mode, manually set to 1, bsck to 0. the latter has got to be a BUG.

  1. Settings → Enhanced Tracking Protection -> Tell websites not to share & sell data DOES NOT present in any FfA - std, beta or alpha.

what i see/have is:

Settings -> subhead Privacy and Security -> Enhanced Tracking Protection, which i set to STRICT. there is no, "Tell website not to share & sell data" UI option ANYWHERE in FfA. STRICT never sets privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled to TRUE. i have to do that manually in about:config. STRICT seems to set privacy.globalprivacycontrol.pbmode.enable to TRUE.

everytime FfA restarts, it changes privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled back to FALSE, while privacy.globalprivacycontrol.pbmode.enable stays TRUE.

none of this garbage flippage happens on Ff desktop. only on Andtoid.

cookiebanners.service.mode has NOTHING to do with GPC.

Sorry , i mixed two things up.

FfA Settings UI can force cookiebanners.service.mode.privateBrowsiing to 1, but NOT for cookiebanners.service.mode. the UI only describes privateBrowsing.

You mean , the Setting "Cookie banner blocker in Private Browsing".

According to the code , the setting value of "Cookie banner blocker" normal browsing is decided by "Nimbus" (Nimbus is automated experimentation system) , Its value is vary in different release channel .

And also it is a single way update.

everytime FfA restarts, it changes privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled back to FALSE, while privacy.globalprivacycontrol.pbmode.enable stays TRUE.

"privacy.globalprivacycontrol.pbmode.enable stays TRUE" is intentional. "privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled" depends on "Tell websites not to share & sell data"

Settings → Enhanced Tracking Protection -> Tell websites not to share & sell data DOES NOT present in any FfA - std, beta or alpha.

I could observe this option in Firefox Nightly (2024-03-16) and Firefox Beta (124.0b9) and even Firefox 123.

Please do not mix up two problems in a single ticket.

  1. i primarily use FfA in landcsape mode, w/ addressbar/toolbar on bottom. there are a few tabs where auto-hide bar while scrolling malfunctions. when auto-hide fails, the bottom line of those pages are blocked from view/action.

that's where do not share my data has been this entire time, behind a stuck addressbar. i've toggled it & see what happens forward.

  1. i have never explicitly enabled Nimbus on any Ff.

is it automatically enabled by Debug mode, alone, on FfA beta or alpha? i haven't specifically toggled anything Nimbus.

the list of FfA alpha Nimbus experiments make no direct mention of anything to do w/ cookiebanners.

  1. thx. small progress is progress.
