This is probably one of those users-enable-a-pref-and-then-are-surprised-when-it-causes-problems issue so feel free to close as INVALID/WONTFIX.

Prerequisite:

media.autoplay.blocking_policy is set to 2.

STR:

  1. Visit https://embed.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm2057168.
  2. Click to play the video.

Expected behavior:

Video plays and playback controls does not disappear.

Actual behavior:

Video does not play. Once playback controls disppear they do not reappear.

Workarounds:

1a. Click play and then immediately pause the video,
1b. wait until part of the video is loaded (as indicated by the seekbar),
1c. Start playing/pausing/seeking the video or do whatever you want.

OR

  1. Set media.autoplay.blocking_policy to 0 or 1 and reload the page.

OR

  1. Click on the You have block autoplay media with sound for this website. icon in the address bar, select Allow Audio and Video, and reload the page. Note that the autoplay icon will only appear AFTER the playback controls were frozen.

I can also get the video to start playing if I apply workaround 3, but do not reload the page by entering PiP mode and using the controls there. Playback controls in the embedded player still wouldn't reappear in this case though.

Confirmed, I can reproduce on Windows. Seems pretty corner case, and is related to a non-standard pref setting. Prioritizing accordingly.
