User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:124.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/124.0
Steps to reproduce:
I tried to open a hyper link in a message. The hyperlink did not open in an external browser.
My Thunderbird snap was updated a few days ago to 115.9.0-1. Since then, I cannot open any hyperlinks in any messages. I am running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Opening hyperlinks in emails was working fine prior to the upgrade.
Actual results:
The hyperlink did not open in an external browser. The console logs the following error whenever a hyperlink is clicked:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIHandlerInfo.launchWithURI] ContentDispatchChooser.sys.mjs:76
Expected results:
The hyperlink should have opened in an external browser, like it did before the upgrade.
As far as I can tell from the TB settings, TB is set up to "Use System Handler (default)" for "HTML document". I can set the system browser to Chrome or FireFox, but the problem still persists. Hyperlinks open just ifne from other documents, like LibreOffice documents.

Same here. In my case it happens after upgrading Kubuntu to 24.04 from 23.10.
I've tried the "usual" solutions given on internet searches but nothing works:
- Change in the Editor Config the "network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http(s)" to true: nothing
- Configure default browser in KDE settings and by terminal with "update-alternatives --config x-www-browser": nothing
- The right-click option "Open link in browser" on url link do nothing also.
- Change option in thunderbid, in Settings, in General scroll down until you find Files & Attachments: nothing

Just for workaround I find that if you install the deb package given by mozilla this functionality comes back, here a link with the process:
https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2024/03/install-thunderbird-deb-ubuntu-2404/
It's not a good solution but it works in the meanwhile.

Still happening in 128.9.0esr (64-bit). Is there a possible workaround beyond avoiding the snap version?

For me is working some time ago, I can't remember when but it started working on its own, I didn´t do anything special...
I'm in Kubuntu 24.10.

No, that's not something we are aware off. If anyone still seeing the issue with the current version and does the desktop environment in use makes a difference?

Seems to be fixed since a couple of versions.
