Steps to reproduce:
I set pref.privacy.disable_button.view_passwords to true in config editor. I then exited and restarted Thunderbird to verify that the setting was still set to true.
The intent was to prevent others from seeing passwords, even if they were allowed to view messages in the email accounts there. There is a bug report - 1566458 - on file to fix Primary Password, which would accomplish the objective, but that bug has been around for almost five years with little hope of ever being fixed. This might be a simpler approach for at least a partial benefit. As it stands, this config setting is useless: if set, it resets at first request.
Actual results:
When I clicked to settings>privacy&security and clicked 'saved passwords' followed by 'show passwords', the passwords are shown, and the setting is reset to false.
Expected results:
When I clicked to show passwords, the request should have either been ignored or a message displayed that they could not be shown. The setting should have remained set to true.

I can confirm that. Strange. Likely some magic from preferencesBindings.js going wrong
