STR:
- select a row in the message list
- make sure that the message is not marked as spam
- toggle the star icon a few times
Actual:
The color of the spam icon changes.
Expected:
No change of the spam icon.
It's a regression from bug 1863812. Tested on macOS 14.4.1. You can see the issue in the following video:
Testing in Windows 10 using release version 115.10.1
Clicking star on and off is not effecting the spam icon.
Testing in Windows 10 using beta version 126.0b2
Clicking star on and off is not effecting the spam icon.
I cannot reproduce in current release and beta.
Maybe this is OS specific.
I cannot test on MAC.
Wayne are you able to test this on a MAC ?

It's a regression from bug 1863812 (confirmed with mozregression) and therefore all versions since 121 are affected. The screen recording shows yesterday's version of Thunderbird Daily on macOS 14.4.1.

Sol, the icons on a selected row are more transparent when they are either starred or junk, see https://searchfox.org/comm-central/source/mail/themes/shared/mail/tree-listbox.css#167. This affects not only the junk icon but also the read icon.
Is this what you have planned?
Thank you everyone for flagging this bug. I have taken a look and this was not the intention, adding a patch for review soon ✌️
