STR:
- Set auto-translation from a given language (e.g. French)
- Open a page in that given language from the current tab in a new tab (e.g. https://lemonde.fr/)
The translation icon will appear in the current tab and it will look like a translation is happening (though it won't actually happen).

:gregtatum, since you are the author of the regressor, bug 1890494, could you take a look? Also, could you set the severity field?

:marco there is a pending NI on :gregtatum, but could this be prioritized for triage?
It's too late for 126.0, but can we expect something for a dot release or at least in time for 127

Probably not severe enough to consider for uplift to 126, unless the patch is simple.

I can't reproduce, but I don't really understand what you mean by step 2, could you provide more detailed steps?

After setting a language to auto-translate, open a page in that language in a new tab.
Easy steps: set Firefox to auto-translate French, open this bug, right click on https://lemonde.fr/ and open it in a new tab.

I was confused by the STR here too.
Specifically, I was opening a new tab, then navigating to a French website in that tab, and everything appeared to work fine.
But now it's clear to me that this issue is with the "Open link in New Tab" context menu item, in which case I am able to reproduce.
This is an interesting edge case in which a translatable page is loaded (with auto-translate enabled) in a tab that is not the active tab.
The same behavior reproduces by Ctrl/Cmd
clicking the link as well.
Note: It doesn't work for me with https://lemonde.fr/ since that redirects my English browser to https://lemonde.fr/en automatically, but it works for https://fr.wikipedia.org.
