If you try to load a webpage offline, by any means, a pop-up states that the
page can't be displayed offline. However, in Mail/News when you click Get Msgs,
the pop-up asks if you want to go online and has a button to do so.

This is inconsistent behaviour between components.

The Browser should offer a "Go Online" button like Mail/News.

This is *not* a dupe of 188537. This is an RFE and refers to the online/offline
status, as in File->Work Offline, of the browser. bug 188537 is about
auto-dialling not working and, AFAICT, appears to be a problem specific to the
reporter that would probably be resolved by creating a new profile.

I thought there was at least one duplciate of this bug, but I could not find it
(possibly the summary was incorrect and it is lost in networking).

REOPEN:
That bug added an error w/ some text instructions, but some users have asked for
an actual "go online" button.

FYI, I've proposed an alternative enhancement that addresses the same problem at
bug 290543.

Benjamin, since your fix on bug 292624 we still have no access to chrome. Is
there a possibility to get the current online state or can't we offer a "Go
online" button?
I'm having trouble thinking of a "safe" way to do that, without an extra dialog.
We could make window.navigator.onLine a writable property (and we probably do
want to do that in the 1.9 timeframe anyway in terms of semi-offline web apps),
but I would expect that setting that should prompt the user.

Benjamin, what has been changed until now. Is the way possible now you have proposed 3 years ago?
Bug 435325 is more information on this.
