Forwarding a report from karlcow on matrix:
Firefox has an issue with macOS 15 beta (Sequoia) where it doesn't appear as started (when running) in the sidebar and doesn't appear in the apps switcher (Command + Tab)
I also reported the bug at Apple, in case it was an OS bug: rdar:129581163

Is this true when Firefox was started explicitly? Or only after Firefox was updated and restarted, for example?

So this is my setup:
- When starting Firefox Nightly or Developer Preview, it always go through the Profile Manager by default.
- Let's say that Firefox Nightly is not started yet
- Clicking on the icon on Firefox Nightly will start the Profile Manager
- At this very moment, when there is the modal to choose the profile. Both the Firefox Nightly icon in the Dock has a dot beside and in the App Switcher (aka Command + Tab) is visible
- Choosing in this screenshot webc-work, then Start Nightly
- Firefox Nightly starts BUT
- the icon is not available anymore in the app switcher
- the dot in the dock is not present anymore
If you switch to another app on the OS and you click on the icon in the dock, it brings the Firefox Nightly window forefront.

In this screenshot of the dock, both Firefox Nightly and Developer Preview are actually started and working. The dot on the side is just not visible.

This is now working after upadting with
- Firefox Developer Editition 128.0b3 (64-bit)
- Firefox Nightly 129.0a1 (2024-06-15) (64 bits)
We can probably close this.

I'm still hitting this testing with the latest Nightly and Release 127.0.1 on macOS 15.0 Beta (24A5264n). I launch through the Profile Manager by default. I have observed that the problem doesn't seem to happen when I open in a way that bypasses the Profile Manager. Specifically running $ open /Applications/Firefox\ Nightly.app/ --args -P Nightly avoids the problem for that instance. This makes me wonder if the launch API we are using is causing this like on bug 1827651.

I tested a build from Stephen with the most recent fix for bug 1827651 and the problem was not reproducible. Making this bug dependent on bug 1827651. We'll report this to Apple through our developer contact.
The bug is reproducible on Beta 2 (24A5279h).

I'm working on a reduced test case for this and I've noticed that, after killing the Dock process, once Dock restarts it shows the application as active and it is visible in the command-tab switch switcher.

I have filed FB14104972 with Apple about this and let our developer contact know. I referenced how Safari being launched from the terminal via bare executable fails to be displayed in the Dock because that problem is easily reproducible and I think our problem is probably caused by the same issue. I have not been able to get a small test case to reproduce the problem using [NSTask launchedTaskWithLaunchPath:path arguments:arguments] like Firefox does when the profile manager is displayed.
FB14104972:
On macOS 15.0 Beta (24A5279h), when launching applications via bare
executable from the terminal, they are not reliably displayed in the Dock.
See attached screen recording where Safari is launched from the terminal
and it is not displayed in the dock until the mouse hovers over the dock.
Additionally, some executables from .apps that are launched with the
deprecated [NSTask launchedTaskWithLaunchPath:path arguments:arguments]
are not displayed in the dock or the command-tab application switcher
until the dock is restarted.

Starting with macOS 15.0 Beta 4 (24A5298h) that became available today, this problem is no longer reproducible. Launching Firefox through the profile manager results in the dot displayed next to Firefox in the dock and Firefox is present in the command-tab switcher.
