Steps to reproduce:
- Select filter to edit.
- Move to move message to dropdown and click on it.
- Move pointer down and first item you stay on for a second is selceted and the sub directory list for that item shows up immediately on mouse hesitation.
- Moving pointer down does nothing and so item selected sub directory list remains.
- Same thing happens in the sub directory list
- Move pointer to sub directory list and first item with sub directories you hesitate on is slected and it's sub directory list shows up.
Actual results:
Mouse over hesitation immediately selects any item with a sub directory (has >).
The only way to get out of the sub directory list is to press the left arrow key.
The main reason I am reporting this is because it took me a while to figure out I could use the left arrow key to attempt to select another account, and to figure out that the mouse hesitation is what caused the selection.
Expected results:
The sub directory list for item should not show until I click on the item, and then when clicking on a new item the directory list for that item should show up. Instead of requireing mot so press the left arrow to select an item.

I can confirm this for Daily under Linux and get the same regression window as in bug 1899299 comment 2 (the second one), but this shouldn't affect 115 ESR. Which exact Thunderbird version and which OS/Distribution are you using?

This doesn't seem to be related to bug 1899299. In my case clicking on a valid folder does close the directory/folder list as expected, but clicking anywhere else in the directory list does nothing. It is especially apprent when you mouse over another directory item (has >) in the opened directory list. It then gets stuck on the newly opened sub directory/folder list. And it does that no matter how deep the tree.
Only pressing the left arrow key gets me back to the previous directory/folder list. Selecting a folder does close all list popups and puts the selected folder in the entry field.
Note that I am currently running on Wayland.
I believe if mouseover was ignored except to highlight the entry, there wouldn't be a problem.

Thunderbird 115.X is not supposed to run on Wayland. We target 128.0 to it.

115 is running fine on wayland here. Except for this issue. Has nobody seen this issue running X. Since upgrading to Fedora 40, KDE 6, I don't have any way to test on X11.

I just verified that this isn't an issue on X11. Obviously I found a way to run X11 on Fedora 40 and after logging into an X11 session I found that message filter destination directory selection works as expected.
When will we see version 128?
