User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.0
Steps to reproduce:
Getting notifications from GitHub into a dedicated IMAP folder. Worth noting all messages in this folder are automatically grouped into one thread tree.
Actual results:
All messages there since 24.06.2024 are shown in the list to be from Guus der Kinderen. If I open a message, the From header here is also shown as Guus der Kinderen. Yet the tooltip over it displays the actual From header from the message source.
Expected results:
Properly retrieved From headers like before.

Worth noting I also see correct From in new mail notifications.
Maybe IMAP folder corruption, see bug 1890230. What happens when you repair the mailbox? Right-click, Properties, Repair Folder. Note that this will download all messages from the server again.

It got worse on repairing, now even in historical messages everyone became Guus der Kinderen. But the parent message of the thread, it has correct From displayed.

I have also noticed this Guus der Kinderen in another IMAP folder, with notifications from GitHub too. The disease is spreading. This folder does not have misdetected threads, the affected message is on the topmost level.
That a folder repair makes the issue worse than better is surprising. When happens if you create a new profile (start thunderbird -p) and set up the IMAP account again?

Fresh profile seems to be unaffected.
Worth noting on the primary profile it applies both in Cards View and Table View.
I'd say that it's another facet of the already known folder corruption. How about deleting the raw data file and the .msf for the folder from the profile. The messages should then be fetched again with no chance of Guus getting in everywhere.

I killed Thunderbird, removed Wayland.md and Wayland.md.msf files, and launched Thunderbird. When messages got refetched, everyone became Guus der Kinderen again, even the topmost message of the thread. (Or should I have deleted more?)
If the folder is called Wayland.md
, those are the two files to delete. (I'm just someone looking at bugs, I can't help any further.)

Does your Wayland.md
look like a sensible mbox file, or is there some corruption there?
(i.e. if you search through it for lines beginning with "From
", does it look like any messages truncated, and interrupted by a new "From
" line followed by headers for a new message?)

rg '^From' ~/.thunderbird/nuugqzwx.default/ImapMail/imap.googlemail.com/Wayland.md
looks uniform, From
lines evenly intertwined with From:
headers.

New messages in the GitHub
folder are affected with this plague too. Even though it definitely came from the Wayland.md
folder.

Meh, I looked into the address book and discovered there is a Guus der Kinderen
contact assigned for notifications@github.com
. Have no idea if it was added there automatically or accidentally, probably the latter (is there a shortcut for that I could accidentally hit?) I deleted it, would reopen if something like that happens again.
